TURTLE's main goal is to provide an opportunity for students to develop and showcase their novel ideas and problem-solving skills. Emphasis is placed on team-work and leadership skills. Successful members of this organization learn to work with teammates from various disciplines to bring their assigned projects to completion utilizing industry standards. Our strive to continue to grow the organization and become the premier robotics club for the university. TURTLE also participates in outreach programs to high school students organizing special events and participating in robotics competitions whenever possible.
Texas A&M University Robotics Team and Leadership Experience (TURTLE) was founded in the fall semester of 2013 by mechanical engineering students Kenny Chour (15') and Ivan Cortes (15'). At the time, this club consisted of only a handful of students and it operated under the advisement of Dr. Aaron Ames. The goal was simply to form a group of motivated students who could work on interesting projects throughout the semester. The club quickly gained support from other engineering majors who also wished for an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge.
Today, TURTLE has grown to more than 100 members with many active projects, and it continues to be the only student organization at Texas A&M University that is geared towards developing hands-on robotics experience and project management skills through small teams. Dr. Sivakumar Rathinam now serves as the official faculty advisor as well as many other faculty unofficial secondary advisers.
