Undergraduate Summer School
August 14-18, 2023
About Summer School
This summer school will provide undergraduate students, at no cost, with a unique opportunity to learn through hands-on activities about research in the Department of Geology & Geophysics. The department will cover travel expenses, including transportation, lodging, and meals during the week.
We anticipate accepting 10 students for this summer school. Students who can meet ALL criteria below are eligible to apply.
(1) Students reside in the United States.
(2) Students have completed at least a freshman year and are in good academic standing.
(3) Students are not admitted to any graduate program starting in Fall 2023.
There are no major- or coursework-related prerequisites to participate in this summer school.
Each student will select one specific research topic from the list below, and learn that topic through group projects during the summer school week.
- Marine Micropaleontology (hosted by Dr. Christina Belanger)
- Trace Element Geochemistry (hosted by Dr. Lucien Nana Yobo)
- Mineral Physics (hosted by Dr. Jin Zhang)
- Experimental Rock Deformation (hosted by Dr. Hiroko Kitajima and Dr. Frederick Chester)
