Automotive engineers focus on the design and manufacturing of automobiles or other forms of transportation including cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, etc. Automotive engineers work to enhance performance, designs parts of the system for greater efficiency, and create new technologies for safety systems/components.
One of the 14 NAE grand challenges is the Advancement of Personalized Learning! Automotive engineers can help contribute to this challenge because with their knowledge and work on automobiles, they are addressing issues regarding accident causation, safety measures on the road, and vehicle design that affects the driver's and passenger's security and confidence in their vehicle.
In about 5-10 years, I'd hope to help companies in the automotive industry deign a way for less emission to be used when we travel. I hope to work with companies such as Exxon or Shell, and help them connect with material engineers, as well as chemical engineers, to develop a way for the use of renewable energy and fuel resources, to reduce our dangerously high pollution levels.
