This project has been made possible with the contributions from our wonderful engineering students through the AggiE_Challenge Project starting in Fall 2020. We are looking for more talented engineering students to join our team.
Based on the 3D Virtual Environment of the RELLIS Campus, we started collecting data in CARLA to train perception models. Some of the team members worked on the autopilot code.
In the video clip below, we showed our latest work to include auditory signals to further enhance the perception model. Specifically, we attached audio files to Unreal Engine assets (ambulances and police cars) to simulate auditory signals in a real environment. The altitude of the audio signals is attenuated based on the distance from the observer. In CARLA, an audio receiver is also developed to catch the audio signals.
In addition to finetuning the road networks created in Fall 2020, the team added 3D objects within Unreal Engine and tested the 3D environment with the Carla Simulator.
The team worked together to create road networks based on a high-definition map of the RELLIS campus with RoadRunner.
