I find that my brain processes information more clearly when I write on paper, so I took the time to outline the prompt and fill in the gaps with my plans for the rough draft. This approach enabled me to organize my ideas and determine which one was the most practical to pursue.
In my rough draft, I discuss challenges associated with maintaining digital and media literacy in business and maritime education. I also discuss the increasing reliance on digital tools and media platforms in these disciplines and the difficulties educators and students face in properly understanding and using these resources.
My annotated bibliography was a train wreck because it was my first experience creating one. The research was time consuming and I had difficulties throughout the entire process of creating it. I was aware of its poor quality when I submitted it, but I turned a blind eye because it was not worth putting me in a more negative head space.
The peer review didn't go well for me because instead of properly reviewing my work, a classmate claimed it was so boring she didn't want to look at it any longer. Obviously that damaged my confidence with my writing, so I didn't look at it again until it was time to write my final paper.
This was one of the best grades I got for a final finished product, and I was very proud of myself. I keep the main concepts of my draft, but I refined it more clearly and improved everything my professor asked me to improve. If I had more time to work on it I would've tried harder, but I'm stll pleased with the grade I made on this paper.
Our group's collaboration process was quite chaotic, and we frequently found ourselves distracted. Despite these challenges, we successfully explored the impact of media literacy in the fields of business and engineering, as well as the influence of visual literacy on engineering and ocean conservation. We made an effort to frame the entire essay within the context of digital literacy. However, our grade reflects the difficulties we encountered as a group while working on this assignment. I was personally pleased with the grade because it was passing and now behind me.
I had many ups and downs with the research unit. I would confidently give it the most difficult unit of the semester award because I have never been more frustrated with myself and the assignments in this unit. The professor warned the class that we’d need to spend a good amount of time outside of class on these assignments because they were time-consuming and needed plenty of attention and revisions to meet the expectations and criteria for the assignments. This unit's objective was to research digital literacy and our choice of literacy, making sure to add rhetorical elements. After our independent research and final papers on said research, we had to group up with two or more people with similar literacy choices to do one group research project. Not only did I struggle with finding the right sources for my research, but I also had a terrible time trying to figure out what I wanted to claim with the sources I had centrally. The group project wasn’t any better, but I was glad that the work was spread out, so it wasn't as taxing as doing my final for the independent research. In this unit, I learned that research needs lots of devoted time, teamwork is difficult, and I learned that I need to improve my ability to add rhetorical elements to my papers.
