2021 Campus Dean Presentation

Pros: 

• Quality of life!

• Variety of clinical sites 

• Dr. Brown is a very involved Campus Dean

Cons: 

• The school buildng is in Round Rock, not Austin 

• Highest cost of living

Research: 

• Lots of in-person and remote opportunities.

Pros: 

• AIM program! 

• No residents = almost entirely 1 on 1 time with attendings

• Can be involved with future M1 students

• Close availability of staff, faculty & admin

• No extra moving

Cons: 

• Take all shelf exams at one time (can be a pro, depends on the learner)

• ~4 required 2-week electives located far from BCS 

• Lack of "big city" events, but 1-2 hr drive to several major cities

Research: 

• Available, but they are what you make of it!

BCS Site

• CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center

• CHI St. Joseph College Station Hospital

• Baylor Scott & White Hospital College Station

• School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency in Bryan

• The Physicians Center

Pros: 

• Fun city!

• Free parking

• BUMC is level 1 trauma center (highest care possible)

Cook's has Level IV NICU (highest care possible)

• Agape clinic for volunteering

Cons: 

• not many pediatric or psychiatry electives available

• clinical sites are spread throughout DFW so lots of commuting

• Limited study space

• High cost of living

• annual Medical Education Research Forum in April

• University Behavioral Health - Denton

Pros: 

• no residents = more interaction with the attending

• Huge hospital system with great amenities

• Cheaper cost of living

• Most electives available

Cons: 

• No residents = not much input on residency life

• Big city so lots of driving across various sites

• EM rotation not as great as Dallas/RR

Houston Site

• The Women's Hostpital of Texas
