Prof. Dr. Jonas Karthein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy & the Cyclotron Institute at Texas A&M University. He received his B.Sc. (2015), M.Sc. (2017), and Ph.D. (2020) in Physics from Heidelberg University, Germany, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His research was conducted at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics (2012-2016) and CERN (2016-2020) as a Gentner CERN Doctoral Fellow. He moved to MIT as a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2021 and joined Texas A&M as a faculty member in 2025. Prof. Karthein has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2022 GSI/FAIR GENCO Young Scientist Award and three dissertation awards from Heidelberg University, the German Physical Society, and the European Physical Society. Prof. Karthein's research focuses on fundamental open questions in physics by employing precision laser, ion storage, and quantum sensing techniques to the atomic nucleus.
