I work at the intersection of international relations and international law. I read and teach about international order, international organizations, non-state actors, power and violence.
I am keenly interested in understanding the flight of ordinary people in conflict zones. More often than not, the fate of people is largely determined by the geopolitics, as well as internal power struggles within. What superpowers do and want is always part of my study, as well as the domestic political factions within civil strife, whether the dividing line is sectarian or ethnic. Civilian agency also matters where people write their own fates. What outsider helpers can and cannot do is at the center of my current scholarly inquiry.
My spare time is well spent with my family and friends, doing outdoor activities, cooking, and reading.
