Navy/Marine

Why go Navy/Marine?

Contracting with the Navy opens the door to many unique career opportunities that you would not be able to find in any other branch:

Aviation

Surface Warfare

Submarine

Special Warfare

Marine Corps

Naval ROTC at Texas A&M means that you can further challenge yourself and become part of a longstanding tradition of service to this great nation.

Midshipmen Battalion

The Midshipmen Battalion is the organization that we use to train our future Navy and Marine officers. It is composed of two companies, November Company (Navy) and Mike Company (Marine). Each company has four platoons, composed of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, 5th year cadets and MECEP members.

What does the Midshipmen Battalion do?

Every Wednesday afternoon the Midshipmen Battalion meets to conduct training. Regular activities include:

  • Learning to fire the 9mm and M-16

  • Learning to fight fires at the Fire School

  • Climbing on an F/A-18 and talking to its Pilot

  • Running the Obstacle/Stamina Course

  • Learning histories and traditions of the Navy and Marine Corps

  • Learning and performing land navigation

  • Drill (armed and unarmed)

In addition to these weekly activities, our NROTC Unit also sponsors weekend Field Training Exercises (FTX) and an annual NJROTC Field Meet for high school students.

Scholarships

There are many Scholarship opportunities from both the Navy and the Corps of Cadets. You are able to reapply for these each year.

Scholarships

Defining the difference between Scholarship Students, College Program Students, and Naval Science Students:

  • A Scholarship Student is an individual who has received a national 4 year NROTC scholarship and will sign a contract to commission as a Naval Officer upon graduation.

  • A College Program Student is an individual who is actively pursuing an NROTC Contract.

  • A Naval Science Student is an individual who has no desire to receive or pursue an NROTC contract.

We have 2 or 3 year scholarships available and encourage you to set your sights on them early. Competitive applications for these opportunities include completion of Calculus and a high GPA. If you were not selected for a 4-year scholarship out of high school, but strongly desire to attend Texas A&M, be a member of the Corps of Cadets, and eventually an officer, there are still many opportunities to receive a scholarship!

There is more information on NROTC scholarships at FAQ – Texas A&M Naval ROTC (tamu.edu)

Special Units

Want to challenge yourself and get more involved than NROTC? The Corps of Cadets has additional Naval extracurriculars called Special Units, such as SEAL Platoon and Naval Recon Company.
