One of the common theme I found is that a lot of people (including me) want to learn more about the effect media have people or the role of media on the society. This would make a lot of sense because the class is named Computer and New Media. The name suggests that it is going to be about media and we are curious about the effect of media on our day to day life. This can be found in Taj Bounds, Brain Chen, and Evelyn Crowe's page.
Another common theme I found is that a lot of people have a music and game category when they categorize their media. This also makes sense because most people play games and listen to music and when thinking about categorizing the media, they think of how the media is being used. This can be found in Alisa Lin, Nathan Cain, and Connor Callan's page.
A lot of people tends to title their page with their name or at least a title involving their name. This is a little interesting to me. Even though we are asked to create a personal website but the website itself is not that much about ourselves but our reason to take the class and how we categorize media. This can be found in Emily Hotz, Steven Grimshaw, and Akash Jothi's page.
I categorize the media in 5 primary categories: Social & Communication, Entertainment, Information, School, and Reading. As I read through people's webpage, I saw a couple that categorize their media as visual & audio, visual only, and audio only. I think that makes more sense as the primary categories. Since everything would fall under at least on of those and that gives us an idea of how are we using the media. As everything else falls under these three. I also realized that I forgot a very important media in our life, which is phone call. It is so commonly used to the point that I forgot about it. I also forgot to include our phone. I was only thinking about the apps we use on our phone but forgot that the phone itself is also a media.Â
