In order to help instructors find low or no-cost textbook alternatives for English 203 and other literature classes, the English 203 Ad Hoc Readings Advisory Committee has been working this past semester on compiling a list of literary texts--written and visual--that are available, via open access on the internet or through the library as electronic books licensed to be used by an unlimited number of readers. Films have been included by way of public domain and/or Kanopy access. The committee has vetted each text for classroom use in terms of accuracy, relevance, and academic quality, and approved each one that has been chosen. Our purpose in doing this is to provide the department with a list of texts from which faculty and graduate student teachers might select, should they be interested in doing so.Â
The list compiled by the committee is not intended to be an exhaustive list of possible texts, nor is the committee suggesting that all texts used in ENGL 203 should be from this list. (In fact, some commonly-taught texts are not included on this list due to copyright and ebook licensing restrictions.)
