Do I need to pay for the Chemistry Prep Module (CPM)?
No, the CPM is free to all students.
When should I complete the CPM?
We encourage you to begin the CPM as soon as possible, and have it completed to 90% PRIOR TO YOUR NEW STUDENT CONFERENCE. The CPM takes students on average less than 6 hours to complete, though some students may need more time. It does not need to be completed in one sitting.
Once you complete the initial assessment in the module, it will determine what topics you require additional tutorials on. The amount of content tutorials required will vary by student, but we urge you to take your time to ensure you fully understand all content. You are expected to complete 90% of the module prior to registration for CHEM 119. We want to ensure you are set up for success here at TAMU!
How long does it take to complete the CPM?
Students have been shown to complete the CPM in 1-20 hours (average time is about 4 hours). This does not need to be done in one sitting.
I plan to enroll in CHEM 107/117 as a General Engineering Student. Do I still need to complete the CPM?
Incoming freshmen in Physics, Geophysics, and General Engineering who do not plan to major in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering typically take CHEM 107/117 instead of CHEM 119. Students who plan to enroll in CHEM 107/117 do not need to take the CPM, but they will need to obtain a score of 22 or better on the MPE to register for CHEM 107/117.
I am an Engineering at Blinn student. Do I still have to complete the CPM?
Engineering at Blinn students will take their Chemistry courses at Blinn and will not need to do the Chemistry Prep Module (CPM).
I took dual credit courses in high school or have AP credit. Do I still need to complete the CPM?
All students intending to register for CHEM 119 need to complete the CPM, regardless of high school coursework. If your AP credit or dual-credit courses are deemed equivalent to CHEM 119 and you choose not to register for CHEM 119, you do not need to complete the CPM. However, professional schools like medical school and vet school may not accept credit by exam for courses required for admission, so pre-professional students may want to complete the CPM just in case their advisor suggests they take CHEM 119.
I am a transfer student who has already completed general chemistry. Do I still have to complete the CPM?
If you completed a general chemistry course equivalent to CHEM 119 and do not need to register for CHEM 119 to complete your degree plan, you do not need to complete the CPM, unless you choose to retake first-semester general chemistry at TAMU.
