Start by playing familiar games.
Use the language/s you use at home when playing the games.
Encourage other family members to play the games (e.g. big brothers and sisters, grandparents, cousins).
Try using things your child likes (e.g. use characters from a favourite story or movie for game cards).
Try making the game harder (e.g. adding more cards to the memory game) or simpler (playing the memory game with fewer cards, or turning over more cards with each turn).
Things You Can Say Regularly: using words that your child can understand helps them to play the games more successfully, and helps them use skills they learn in the games in other situations during the day. You might like to try using words and phrases like: Calm Take a deep breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth. How are you feeling? Concentrate , Listen carefully, Remember , Focus , Try to be patient , Wait, Slow down.
