Physical Education aims to develop understanding and apply strategies to improve an individual’s level of skill in a range of activities; to explore the biomechanics of movement and anatomical principles, and how they influence our body to work; to examine interpersonal skills and how we apply them in order to develop leadership; and use teamwork to build a sense of confidence, pride and determination to succeed.
Assessment
You have the opportunity to gain up to 19 Achievement Standard credits, all of which are internally assessed. You also have the opportunity to gain Course Endorsement with Merit or Excellence in this subject. To gain an Excellence endorsement you need to gain 14 or more credits at Excellence level. To gain a Merit endorsement you need to gain 14 or more credits at Merit (or a combination of Merit and Excellence). Assessments will be submitted in relation to the student L1 PE programme. Any resubmissions will occur if required under teacher guidance.
The five achievement standards assessed are:
1.1 AS90962 5 Credits
Participate actively in a variety of physical activities and explain factors that influence own participation.
1.2 AS90963 5 Credits
Demonstrate understanding of the function of the body as it relates to the performance of physical activity.
1.3 AS90964 3 Credits
Demonstrate quality movement in the performance of a physical activity.
1.5 AS90966 4 Credits
Demonstrate interpersonal skills in a group and explain how these skills impact on others
1.8 AS90969 2 Credits
Take purposeful action to assist others to participate in physical activity
Students are required to demonstrate a conscientious approach to their learning both within a practical and classroom based environment.
