The Community Service Assignment ensures all students have the opportunity to experience the power of making a difference in our community by helping others. Through community service, individuals change lives, improve communities, solve problems, and create lasting change in our world.
Students are required to complete 10 hours of community service while in high school. Community service that counts for HSBP must be completed by mid-April of senior year. Once a student has completed 10 hours, they need to:
Join the Community Service Google Classroom class for their graduation year. Click on the appropriate grade in the left sidebar to access the class.
Complete and submit the assignment, which requires photo(s) of completed Community Service Verification Form with Hours Log, photo(s) of the student engaged in the service, and answers to four questions about the service.
Community Service Verification Form with Hours Log - Must include contact information and signatures. Get printed copies of the form in the Future Ready Center
Evidence/Pictures - Your picture(s) are evidence for your assignment. Most students take 1-3 pictures of themselves engaged in the service, but you can also use items like service logs from the community service organization. Look at pages 3-7 of the Overview to see examples of evidence.
THS does not track service hours in SchooLinks or Skyward.
Your assignment will be graded pass/fail. A 4/4 is a pass. If your assignment is returned without a grade, it needs to be revised. Once you have earned a 4/4, you have met the community service requirement for graduation. Assignments will be returned as incomplete if sections are left unfinished. If your assignment is incomplete, you will need to revise and resubmit.
We are always posting volunteering opportunities on the Future Ready Center website.

Students can earn a Tahoma Volunteer Service Award for outstanding community service. Look under Community Service on the Future Ready Center website. The VOLUNTEER AWARD tab has all the information. Students who have earned a TVSA (PVSA) award at any grade level can use those hours for this assignment and do not need to complete the assignment posted in Google Classroom.
