Travel Through The Wall
In 1961, in an effort to stop the growing numbers of people leaving East Germany, the construction of the Berlin Wall was ordered. Early on August 13, East German troops and workers began stringing barbed wire and setting up barriers that would eventually become the 155 km Berlin Wall surrounding West Berlin. Berlin was then a divided city and East Berliners could no longer travel to West Berlin and hence the West freely.
30 years had passed since the collapse of the Berlin Wall - the Wall that not only divided Berlin for half a century, but also the Germans, deep in their hearts. On the West side are colourful graffiti while on the East, are totally blank and sterile. Some might say graffiti are bad for cities, but in fact, it shows the cruelty of the Berlin Wall. Any thoughts?
There is no need to travel to Berlin to admire the artwork on the Wall - We have rebuilt it in our school! Not only can you know more about the history of the divided Germany, but also can leave your own thoughts and artwork on the graffiti wall.
Besides, we have re-created the infamous Checkpoint Charlie - which once turned East Germany into a prison, but in 1989, allowing people from both sides of Germany to kiss and hug one another.
