It can be very difficult to watch your child struggle in school. As a parent, we respect that you want to do all that you can to ensure that your child is successful. The Timberstone teachers and Intervention Assistance Team is here to help you process what challenges you are seeing as a parent and help to find effective solutions.
We believe that the two key players in student success are the parents and the teachers. As a parent, your first step when you are concerned about your child is to reach out to his or her teachers to share your concern. You can reach out to an individual teacher, or your child's group of teachers to request a meeting. This meeting will provide you time to share your concerns and develop classroom based interventions to help your child be successful.
After communicating with your child's teachers, you all may decide that further action is necessary. At this time, your child's teacher will schedule time to meet with the team and relay your concerns. The teacher will provide data regarding the interventions that have been attempted and explain why or why not they have been successful. You will receive a follow up discussion from either your child's teacher or the IAT Coordinator.
The intervention process can take quite a bit of time. A successful intervention trial period can last for three to six weeks. The team requires data in order to make appropriate decisions for the students. At times, an intervention period will prove to be unsuccessful and more time may be necessary. This decision will be made alongside you with the support of the team in order to pinpoint what the student needs.
As a parent, you are an integral part of the IAT process. You are encouraged to attend IAT meetings and to reach out whenever you need further information.
