Dan Savage Middle School CJSF
Sanctioned Chapter 1116
What is CJSF?
The purpose of the California Junior Scholarship Federation, a state-wide organization of over 600 chapters, is to foster high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship on the part of students of California's public and private junior high and middle schools.
What are the benefits of CJSF membership?
CJSF prepares the student for high school and beyond. Membership also brings with it the opportunity to participate in activities which benefit the school, the community, and the student. Each trimester, CJSF members have an opportunity to attend a field trip to an exciting destination (additional cost for transportation and/or admission required). Getting involved in extracurricular activities outside of class, e.g. band, CJSF, Leadership, yearbook, drama or even volunteering, helps students discover what their real interests are and where they are heading.
What do I need to turn in to join CJSF?
∙ Students need to earn a minimum of 8 points on a trimester report card in 4 core academic courses (math, language arts, science, and social studies) to be eligible.
o Report cards grades: A = 3 points, B = 1 points, no points for grades C and below
o A grade of D or F in any course or N/U citizenship disqualifies a student from trimester membership
∙ $5.00 membership dues (Club dues support CJSF events and program essentials)
∙ CJSF application
∙ Copy of academic transcript printed from AERIES attached to application
∙ Students must reapply for CJSF membership at the beginning of each trimester
What is Honor Membership?
To obtain honor membership, you must qualify for membership and complete all requirements for four trimesters. Two of the trimesters must be in 7th grade, and two must be in 8th grade.
What awards do CJSF Honor members receive?
Those who obtain honor membership by the end of your eighth grade year will receive the following awards:
∙ The official gold CJSF Honor Membership Pin
∙ CJSF recognition in the 8th grade promotion program
∙ Opportunity for Associate membership as incoming freshman in high school California Scholarship Federation (CSF)
∙ Access to college scholarship only available to Dan Savage CJSF honors members.
What activities must CJSF members participate in?
∙ Two break time meetings (start at 10:15 am in room 44)
∙ Group or individual community service activities (2 hours minimum per trimester arranged by member)
What happens if I receive a referral or suspension when I am a member of CJSF?
∙ A referral or suspension for ANY reason may result in your CJSF membership being revoked for the trimester during which the disciplinary action took place. However, you will be able to reapply for CJSF the following trimester.
∙ In addition to referrals or suspensions, any student who is otherwise eligible but who in the judgment of the Advisor and Principal is not eligible for ethical reasons, may be disbarred from trimester membership.
