NEWMAN SELECTIVE GIFTED EDUCATION PROGRAM 

St Raphael's Primary School

In 2024, St Raphael's Catholic Primary School aims to offer a range of differentiated learning opportunities for gifted and talented students. These include: 

ABILITY GROUPINGS:

The following groups are taught throughout the school year:

Differentiation Groups - Across Stage groups based on student ability (History, Geography and/or Science).

Newman Groups - Across Stage 'withdrawal' groups for gifted students. Based on a 'big concept' or skill development.

Newman Mathematics Groups - Extension 'withdrawal' groups for gifted mathematicians to develop higher order problem solving skills eg Yr 6 students completing Stage 4 Mathematics in collaboration with Penshurst Marist.

Visual Arts Newman Group - Across school visual arts program for gifted artists 

Interest Workshops - Mini workshops based on areas of interest eg Science and Writing

Sporting Pathways 

Students are given the opportunity to represent the school, region and even the state in a variety of sports through the SCS pathway program.
