Phase 1

(2019 Cohort)

Module 1 : What is Liturgy? Applying the Principles

The first Module in Phase 1 will challenge some current misunderstandings about what is classified as liturgy in our schools, and provide you with clear direction on developing correct liturgical practises. You will leave the day knowing how to apply the liturgical principles which guide good liturgy and there will be various opportunities to engage in discussions particular to Primary and Secondary. This includes sharing solutions to the challenges that RECs face in preparing liturgical and prayer celebrations within the contexts of their school. There will be a strong focus on practically applying the learnings of the day to real examples, and it will be an opportunity to provide a solid foundation for subsequent modules.

Module 2 : Foundations for the Celebration of Mass

Module 2 will explore in detail the parts of the Mass in ways that perhaps have not been considered. Through participation in ritual analysis and exploration of the GIRM, you will be able to use newly gained understanding with students and staff in your school context to help increase their knowledge and understanding leading to formation.

Module 3 : Using the Official Liturgical Books

Using the official liturgical books are essential in the preparation of good liturgy with our students. This module will give you an opportunity to prepare official liturgies for use in your school while engaging with books such as the Ordo, General Instruction of the Roman Missal and the Lectionary among others. You will leave the day having a familiar understanding of how to use these books (in hard copy and electronically) to prepare liturgy in your school.

Module 4: Proclaiming the Word and Singing the Psalms

This full day workshop will be practical in nature according to the context (primary or secondary). It will combine the necessary liturgical foundations of The Liturgy of the Word and provide the essential techniques of teaching children and adults to proclaim the scripture and sing and lead the Responsorial Psalm in your school.

Module 2: Liturgical Music in the Catholic School Context

This day is especially suited to Music teachers and RECs. This whole day workshop will give participants a solid understanding of the inherent connection that music has to the mass. The day will incorporate excellent examples of music repertoire in the context of either primary or secondary, and with the principles of what is required when choosing music for the mass, compared to other prayer celebrations. For the Primary Day, the issue of limited musical resources/personnel and what can be done will also be discussed.
