Schools Recommendation Schemes, Educational Access Schemes and Equity Scholarships

These are now All open

This year SRS, EAS and ES have separate application guides. These are now available to download.

Eligible students for these schemes should begin their equity application as soon as they've applied through UAC.

UAC has also produced EAS fact sheets with key information and the Community Engagement team has produced PowerPoint presentations for EAS and SRS with information and instructions on both applications to help direct student questions.

UAC SRS Update

Closes 20 September

In response to the current disruption to Year 12 studies, many institutions will be taking Year 11 results into account when allocating places to Year 12 applicants. This includes the insight that schools can provide about their students’ future performance in different subject areas. The subject area ratings in SRS will remain until 2021.

UAC EAS Update

New disadvantages added. Consider if your HSC studies been impacted due to:

Natural Disasters

COVID-19

Macquarie University Early Entry Schemes Update

Macquarie University has announced that any applicant who meets the criteria for their Early Entry Schemes, which offer students a place at Macquarie based on their Year 11 results, will be made an offer to study at Macquarie in 2021.

For the first time, Macquarie is also announcing the removal of exemptions to courses available through its two early entry schemes – the Schools Recommendation Scheme (Open now) and Leaders and Achievers Early Entry Schemes (Open June 1).

Tuesday 19 May from 4:00pm - 4:45pm.

Join our staff and current students to find out more about the Western Sydney University experience. Learn about Western's courses, campuses and student life to get you started on your journey to Western. Find out more about entry to Western via our pathways including HSC True Reward, The College and the alternative entry options. You will be guided through how to apply directly through the Western portal and UAC.

University Information

Based on the School's recommendation, the University of New England will guarantee students an offer to start university with UNE in 2021.

How Does the Guarantee Work?

Students will be able to choose up to 3 course preferences in their free online application. School's recommendation combined with academic performance will determine the best offer of a university place for students. ATARs are not required.

UNE will guarantee an offer to every student, if not for one of their three preferences then for an alternative course to ensure that students have the best chance of success.

Alternative offers may be for another degree, diploma or the Pathway Enabling Course. The Pathways course is free and will build study skills and capability to get into the course of choice.

Students will receive their offer directly from UNE in November. A UNE Direct Early Entry application does not exclude students from applying through UAC or to any other university, but offers a valuable guarantee of a university place.

ALL students in Year 10, 11 and 12 undertook the Morrisby psychometric test.

This psychometric testing and scientific measurement involves online assessments and questionnaires which informs Students and parents on people’s strengths and interests, their motivations, skills, personality and desires. These results help us give recommendations for education and career choices that match people’s abilities and interests.

Each student received an 18 page report to help guide their decisions regarding subject selection and future study/careers. These results should be shared with parents to help generate discussion.

Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one way institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission, using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.

Each institution has its own policy for determining SRS eligibility and making offers. For example, you may also have to submit an EAS application by institution-defined date/s, or attend a school in a particular region.

SRS is not available for all courses. The institution-specific SRS criteria detail any exceptions.

For each University's SRS criteria click here:

Educational Access Schemes (EAS) aim to help students, whose education has been negatively affected during Year 11 and/or Year 12 (or equivalent), receive an offer to university.

To apply for EAS you must be able to demonstrate that your Year 11 and/or Year 12 studies (or equivalent) were negatively affected for a period of at least six months as a result of circumstances beyond your control or choosing.

Access and Scholarship Programs

A reminder that Schools Recommendation Schemes, Educational Access Schemes and Equity Scholarships are all open for applications.

These programs have opened earlier this year so schools have more time to help students with their supporting documentation like records of attendance, educational impact statements and student ratings (for SRS).

It also gives students more time to fill out their applicant statement, obtain supporting documentation like medical impact statements and Centrelink information, all before the pressure of final exams.

If you’ve already applied for EAS, don’t forget your supporting documentation. Your EAS application won’t be considered until UAC has received all of your paperwork.

You can check what documents you need to supply on UAC's website.

The SAT (which used to stand for Scholastic Aptitude Test but now stands for literally nothing) is one of two college entry exams necessary for US college admissions.

Colleges use your SAT score to measure how ready you are for college courses as well as your future potential. If you’re a Year 12 student in NSW, or an interstate student planning on applying in 2020 to a Uni in NSW through UAC, there’s some good news.

You can now start the undergraduate admissions process from 9am on 3 April 2019 (in previous years you had to wait until August). So if you know what you want to study and where, you could get your Uni applications done early in the Year, leaving more time to focus on study near to your exams.

A cadetship is an effective way of launching your career from the start of university rather than after you graduate. For twelve years, Professional Cadetships Australia (PCA) has provided opportunities for Year 12 students to apply for a cadetship and during that time, 185 cadets have been placed under our programs.

There are two programs: Business Cadetships and Engineering & Technology Cadetships (ETCAD).

By studying and working at a leading company from the start of university, cadets earn a competitive advantage over students who delay work until after they have graduated. Compare the outcomes for a university student and a cadet in the table below:

Year 12 students apply online to Professional Cadetships Australia. We run the application process and conduct first-round interviews in order to determine which candidates will be referred to participating companies.

Applications for the Business Cadetships Program open on 4 March and close on 15 May 2019.

Applications for the ETCAD Program open on 29 April and close on 21 June 2019.

Only current Year 12 students can apply for our cadetship programs. It is not possible to apply once you are attending university. So, if you would like to take advantage of these opportunities, make sure you apply by the due deadlines.

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental and clinical science degree programmes.

The UCAT ANZ test will replace the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) from 2019 (for university entry in 2020).

The test helps universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications.

It is also an opportunity to stand out from other applicants and demonstrate aptitude for a demanding programme of study.

The UCAT ANZ is a computer-based test delivered in Pearson VUE test centres throughout Australia, New Zealand and at some overseas locations.

Please note that some pathways to medicine / dentistry / clinical sciences will not require the UCAT. For some applicants a different test may be required. For details candidates should refer to the websites of the universities to which they intend to apply.

Find the dates for 2019 here

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 interested in medicine or dentistry will need to sit the compulsory UCAT (examination) when applying for one of the above career choices. NIE conducts UCAT preparation workshops in all major cities across Australia.
