Classroom expectations and rules are based on PBSIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.)
PBSIS focuses on creating positive student behavior and a positive school climate.
The following rules are reviewed each day and posted in the classroom:
Be Respectful.
Focus on Yourself.
Make Safe Choices.
During the first week of school each member of our class family signed a contract to do their best to follow rules and expectations.
Behavior
Secret Student:
Each day, we pick a “secret student.” I am the only one who know who it is. Throughout the day, I watch the secret student to see if they are following our class rules, showing model behavior, etc. If they demonstrate this behavior, their name is announced, they receive a special note, and a counter is added to our tens frame. If this behavior is not demonstrated, their name is not announced, and we encourage each other to think about our choices.
Whole class reward: When the class fills a tens frame, they decide on a reward together.
“Oh yeah” and “Oh oops” points given throughout the day. If students receive more “Oh yeah” points than “Oh oops” points, each student receives a star ticket.
If necessary reflection sheets will be completed with Ms. Dougherty one on one. This allows students to learn the importance of self reflection. Each time, they will be reminded that we all make mistakes, but it is important we learn from them. Reflection sheets will be sent home. I will also personally reach out to families to discuss behavior concerns.
Stratton Positive Behavior System:
Students are awarded star tickets for demonstrating positive behavior.
Star tickets go into our class bucket.
Each Friday I randomly choose one star ticket. Their name goes on a Star to be hung on the wall. They will also be announced by Mrs. Boston on Monday.
All other star tickets are dumped in the school fish tank. Once a month Mrs. Boston choose students from there to spin the prize wheel.
