How you decide to rent/purchase an instrument is entirely up to you, but I would like to share a few helpful tips that might make your shopping a little easier.
Most instruments have a brand name and serial number. Some brands are better than others. Please be wary of any instruments which are missing one or both of these items. (Note: some older instruments do not have numbers.) If you find an instrument that looks good and have questions, please feel free to contact me.
Much like buying a car, there are lemons out there, even if the instrument is a good brand. Sometimes a lower price is a good deal, and sometimes it is a rip-off. I cannot assess the value of an instrument, and please be advised that there are some instruments out there that might need to be repaired frequently and sometimes replaced. A good and safe check system is to look for a brand name and serial number.
As a music teacher, I want your child to have a decent instrument to play, and to get the most for your money. If you need an specifics about what to look for in an instrument, rental or purchase information, information on finding a used instrument, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school: 973-875-4589, or by email: kfelsen @swregional.org
Good luck!
