How These BooKS WERE Written

THE WOLF IN THE BLOOD, THE WOLF CURE and THE NINE WIVES OF RANDAL RHIN were written almost entirely with my right thumb (I estimate about 95% of each). I wrote them and largely edited them on a series of iPhones, starting on a 4 and finishing on a 7 for TWITB and entirely on a 7 for The Wolf Cure and Nine Wives. I used Google Docs and Drive to write it in, the Kindle app on my phone to proof-read, and then regular old MS Word to proof-again, finalise and publish via the Amazon KDP publishing platform.

TWITB clocks in at about 220,000 words. The Wolf Cure is about 96,000, and Nine Wives is about 83,000. Fox Silver will be about 200,000 words. The entire series is being written this way. It will be well over a million words when it is completed and probably closer to 1.5 million.

It took over five years to finish the first draft of TWITB. Most of this time was spent not writing; I stopped writing almost completely for almost a year in the middle. The Wolf Cure was written in five and a half months between October 2018 (just after I published TWITB) and April 2019. It turns out having published a book is excellent motivation to write another one. :) Nine Wives was written between roughly September 2019 and June 2020.

It was, and remains, great fun to do all this.

You can do this too.
