To reflect the input I've received from teachers, I changed the format of the grade 4 end-of-year assessment. These changes are meant to make the evaluation less stressful for students and less of a burden on teachers. This year, students will log in using their Google accounts (provided to everyone courtesy of Ed-Tech at PSD), and do the assessment entirely online. Teachers can give the students 30-60 minutes to complete it during a school day, and they will have 8 weeks (May to June) to bring their students to a computer station. The assessment will be completely self-correcting and the results will be compiled into useful statistics by the Sci-Tech department then returned to teachers to be used as a tool for self-reflection only and NOT for report cards.
Q. How do I/my students access the assessment?
A. A link will be given for the student to follow.
Q. What does one of these new grade 4 end-of-year assessments look like?
A. Click here to see an example of new assessments.
Q. Do I need to use my google account to access anything?
A. NO. However, you will if you want to create/add your own assessment questions to our database. Click here for a tutorial on how to log in to your account.
Q. Can I give the link to the assessment to the kids to do at home?
A. NO. The assessment must be done in school.
Q. When should the students do the assessment?
A. Teachers have 8 weeks to get this done. All of May and all of June.
Q. What If I don't have (enough) computers in my class?
A. Does your school have a computer lab, or computers in the library? Perhaps your school has a rolling cart of chromebooks or ipads? If necessary, teachers can contact Tim or Ron from Ed-Tech, or me and borrow a class set of chromebooks.
If you have computers but not enough for the whole class to use at once, then have the class complete the assessment in parts (first half of the class does the assessment one day then the second half the next day).
Q. What if my class cannot complete the entire assessment on time?
A. An exam can be split into smaller parts if necessary. In general, contact me if you foresee an issue and we can resolve it together.
Q. What does the question database look like? Can I use it during the year to make my own quizzes?
A. You can use the questions in the database in your class during the year. Here is a link to the database.
Q. How can I contribute questions to next year's assessment?
A. Yes. There is a google form that coaches you through the creation of a question and submits it to a databank for all to see and use. Click here for a tutorial video on how to make questions.
Q. If I need to reset a lost password, who can I contact for help?
A. The Sci-Tech consultant, Sam Altarac, can reset student passwords and Ron Turchyniak of Ed-Tech can reset both student or teacher passwords.
