Preparation for Academic Choices in Secondary Cycle Two
In order to meet the objectives of this ACGC item students must:
Anticipate choices for Secondary Cycle Two based on his/her fields of interest and academic aptitudes
The Learning Strategy for this ACGC is ANTICIPATE. This means that the lesson must explicitly teach students how to Anticipate information.

- Become familiar with the courses that are available in Secondary Cycle 2 in the school they will be attending for those grades
- Become familiar with the prerequisites for the courses available in Secondary Cycle 2
- Reflect on how current choices will impact future decisions
- Create a plan that demonstrates an understanding of the academic choices that he or she might make based on academic preferences and aptitudes

- An excellent time to present this information is prior to when students make Secondary 3 course selections
- Provide students with information about the prerequisites for the various courses that they will have access to in the following school year
- Consult with guidance professionals to verify that information about prerequisites for courses is accurate
- Have students reflect on their academic preferences and aptitudes
- Based on their reflection, have students predict what certification they would most likely obtain in order to enter the World of Work (see QEP Pathway chart below)
- Have students consult this document to learn about the Mathematics choices in Sec IV
- Have students consult the Pygma website to learn about the colleges that they can attend in Quebec
- Have students choose one or two "dream" College programs
- Have students consult the SRAFP website to learn about the vocational training courses available in Quebec
- Have students choose one or two "dream" Vocational programs
- Have students create a map of the courses that they anticipate taking in the coming years that will lead them to qualification in each of their chosen "dream" programs
- You may want to use a Mindmap or use Lucid Chart for students to visualize the steps that they anticipate taking in the future
- Discuss how anticipating decisions that students will have to make in the future will make them more aware of the impact of choices that they are making currently
