The SVE Library currently holds 8,166 total books and eBooks that amounts to 12.6 books per student (18 goal), with an average age of 2006 (2008 goal). Of the 7,978 printed materials and 188 digital 17% are classified as Fiction, 52% are classified Non-Fiction and Biography, and 30% are Everyone/Easy (Picture Books), with a total of 604 Spanish and Bilingual books across all sections. While we fall short of the Texas School Library and Archives Commission recommended amount of materials for a distinguished library program, the SVE Library continues to work and improve both the quality and quantity of reading materials, services, and (most of all) access of books and literature to all students of Sun Valley Elementary School, as well as the SWISD community. In addition to coordinating several reading programs and special events, during the 2021-2022 school year the SVE Library (with the help of the community, staff, and administration) was able to give back a total value of over $4,500 in books, prizes, and materials to SVE students and faculty.
The 6 years (now going on 7) that I have had the privilege of being the Librarian at Sun Valley Elementary have been the absolute best in my career in education, which I will not say here how long that has been for fear of dating myself. Nevertheless, it has been a great experience to watch all the students grow into themselves over the years and vice versa. Believe me when I say that the students, parents, staff, and community as a whole have all collectively contributed to the growth of SVE Library program each in their own way and I am, and will be, forever grateful. Because of all of the generosity, patience, and love I am inspired to provide all library patrons and stakeholders with a library experience and program of the highest quality. While I truly work everyday to make the library better for every student, I hope that our library has helped you in someway along your journey through life; as well as being a fun and positive place. The doors of the SVE Library will always be open for all students past and present.
