TIPS FROM THE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Academic engagement is tied directly to success in school!
Here are some tips for parents to help students increase their academic engagement:
Have your student’s set measurable goals: “I am going to improve my math test grades by 10%”, “I will read an extra 20 minutes a day”, “I will ask for help from my teacher three times a week.”
Use homework time effectively: Set routines- have a specific homework time each day “5:00-6:30 is homework time every day”, Plan out times to complete each homework assignment each day, “I will use my planner every day for every assignment!”
Promote student success: praise child for all of their achievements in school by giving them verbal praise (great job, you’re doing awesome, wow you got an A) or with rewards (special dinner, ice cream, activity of their choice). Ask your child how you can help them and how they are doing and feeling about school.

LIBRARY
Hello SUHI Parents!
The libraries of today are not the silent spaces that we adults remember from our childhood; they are so much more. The library here at SUHi is a dynamic learning environment filled with life and lots of information, where students and staff can come to get information, laptops, do research, check out textbooks, and have a safe space to do work and read.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send me an email (michael.garcia@sweetwaterschools.org). Thank you!
