What is the CA Young Reader Medal Award?
"The California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal."
"CYRM is supported by the California Reading Association, the California Association of Teachers of English, California Library Association, and the California School Library Association."
"Young people recommend the titles of their favorite books for nomination, or teachers and librarians note repeatedly read or requested titles, and these are submitted to the California Young Reader Medal Committee. Members of the committee read the suggested books, discuss their merits and appeal to children, and then decide upon a well-balanced list of nominees."

Since 2017, actress Reese Witherspoon has been recommending a monthly book that features a woman at the center of the story. There are a variety of books for whatever mood you are in. The ORH Library has several of these titles in stock!

We Fell Apart is the third book in E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars universe. A young woman named Matilda gets an unexpected invitation from her estranged father, reclusive artist Kingsley Cello, to spend the summer at his estate called Hidden Beach on Martha's Vineyard. The story happens at the same time as the summer of 2015 in We Were Liars, set at a gothic house across the water from Beachwood Island.
