The Experience | Overall, the Common Senior Experience challenged Reform and Progress in a myriad of ways. From teamwork to planning and execution, RAP was able to become more involved within our community. Besides involvement towards improving our community and raising awareness, the behind the scenes process was a beneficial experience to all members. Cooperation and personal responsibility were important towards the completion of each project. Holistically, our project was very nuanced through the depiction of an endless cycle of mental health. From a failure in treatment and medications to homelessness and incarceration, RAP thoroughly illustrated a potential devolution in one's life.
Project 1 | The creative process towards filming and editing the PSA was a highlight for all RAP members. The online and in-person meetings outside of school were definitely a great start to RAP's strong teamwork. It was an insightful project because all members were able to illustrate our understanding in the concept of ineffective treatment options. The idea of "showing and not telling" was executed well as RAP only included one line of speech. The rest of the PSA were shown through our Team Leader's acting.
Project 2 | Volunteering was one of the main ways we were able to directly impact our community. Working with the women made us each feel like we were giving back to those who need it most. We learned more about those who are struggling at the hands of mental illness and realized firsthand how important it is to help others. This was an eye-opening experience for us all and we will definitely volunteer more often in the future.
Project 3 | With this project, we were quite shocked by the answers we gathered. We learned a lot from the project, especially about choosing who to interview. All of us already "knew" the answers from the interviews, yet ended up receiving unexpected ones instead. This taught us about the correlation between the person of our interview and how their views on the topic can change the expected answers.
