Discipline Referral Process – Teacher Guidelines
At Bonita Vista High School, we strive to address student behavior through proactive and supportive measures before moving to a formal referral.
✅ Step 1: Document Tier 1 & Tier 2 Interventions in Jupiter Ed
Record specific actions you’ve taken to address the behavior:
📞 Parent/guardian contact – phone call home to discuss concerns
🪑 Seat change or adjustment to classroom environment
🤝 Private conversation with the student to review expectations
🔄 Restorative conversation or mediation
📅 Additional supports – tutoring, mentoring, or check-ins
⏳ Step 2: Allow Time for Interventions to Work
Give the student a reasonable opportunity to respond to the strategies you’ve put in place.
If the behavior improves, continue reinforcing the positive change.
If there’s no improvement after a reasonable trial period, proceed to Step 3.
📄 Step 3: Submit a Referral in Infinite Campus (IC) if Behavior Persists
When interventions do not resolve the issue:
Clearly list the interventions attempted in the referral description.
Attach or reference Jupiter Ed documentation.
Include specific details of the incident (date, time, location, witnesses).
⚠ Important: If the incident is egregious (e.g., violence, threats, drug/alcohol possession, harassment, or other severe safety concerns), submit a referral in IC immediately without waiting for prior interventions.
