SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
As we prepare for the end of school, beginning this Monday, June 21st, please return any math manipulatives and literacy tools folders that were given to your child to your child’s home school. Your child’s teacher will direct you if you need to bring anything else back to school. Please note, you do NOT need to return your child’s iPad. They should bring this with them when they return to school in the fall. However, if you are moving, and will not be attending a Sweet Home school in September, please return the iPad to your child’s school with their other materials.
School yearbooks are being distributed from your child’s home school. If your child attends Heritage Heights or Maplemere Elementary, these year books will be mailed home with your child’s end-of-year progress report the week of June 28th. If your child’s home school is Glendale or Willow Ridge Elementary, you can stop by the school office and pick up this yearbook when you drop off your child’s supplies.
Also, don’t forget, if you have not done so already, please pick up your child’s remote academy t-shirts at your child’s home school.
Progress Report for all remote academy students will be mailed home the week of June 28th.
Thank you again for supporting your child in remote learning this year. The success they had was a direct result of your child, their teachers, and your family all working together.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at 250-1422.
What is a hero?
This year the Elementary Remote Academy students have been exploring what it means to be a hero. We've looked at the various qualities that make someone a hero and discussed people in our community and workers that we might consider heroes.
We know the pandemic has brought to light many "Everyday Heroes" that have gone above and beyond to keep our community safe, provide for our basic needs and address the daily health needs of individuals and families impacted by COVID-19. We thank them for their service.
We also thank the teacher's, parents and most of all students that have met and overcome the challenge of remote learning this year. You see... there is a hero in ALL OF US.
Students that are prepared and respectful, as well as show integrity, discipline, and effort during remote learning can be nominated for the Panther PRIDE Award.

Important Message About The Future of Remote Learning
As the school year rapidly comes to a close, at this time, we are recommending to the Sweet Home Board of Education (BOE) that ALL K-12 students will be transitioning back to full-time, in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year. While we know this may not be a desirable choice for some families, overall as a district we feel this is the best option for our school community. While some students have flourished with the support of their learning coaches during remote instruction others families have not found this to be an ideal learning environment for their child. While we are still waiting for the final decision from the BOE, as we open schools in September, it is our intent to continue to follow the NYS Department of Health guidelines, and if only mandated by the NYS Department of Education, provide a remote option for families.
In the meantime...... LET'S FINISH STRONG!
Please continue to communicate with your child's teacher if you are encountering difficulties. We will do what we can to support you. Also, be aware, we understand the challenges of remote learning and the stress families can be facing due to COVID. Please contact the remote learning office at 250-1422 if we can be of any assistance. The Sweet Home Family Support Center is also there to serve you. They can be reached at 250-1229.
Also, you are invited to complete this form to request emotional support for you and/or your child and/or assistance with basic needs such as food, clothing, insurance, or benefits for your family. At your request, someone from the Family Support Center or your child's school psychologist or counselor will reach out to you. Click this link- Request for Support
Communication between home and school is critical for student success in Remote Academy.

Type the word "Yes" in the message box.
Press send.
You will receive a text message stating "You're registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications."
As a result of ongoing concerns and uncertainty about the virus and its impact on families, elementary parents have been able to choose to have their child participate in full-time distance learning from home in Sweet Home’s Elementary Remote Academy.
Once enrolled, students are committed to this full-time, online model for minimally the first trimester. At that time students may be allowed to enroll back in their home school only if this does not impact the class sizes of the in-person option available at that time, require additional staffing, and permits required social distancing. If not, students would finish the school year in full-time distance learning. Note: Currently enrollment in the Elementary Remote Academy is closed. Parents of students not enrolled in the academy should contact the district office at 250-1422 if they would like their child place on a waiting list.
To the greatest degree possible, students in the academy will experience a daily school schedule that includes the same components of the normal school day as their grade-level peers participating in face-to-face or blended instruction. Students will continue to be provided instruction that follows their prescribed grade level curriculum common to age or grade, though personalized to meet their needs.
For each class, students will be provided with clear directions for remote learning that includes a schedule for “live” online times (synchronous whole group, small group, or individual teaching) as well as expectations for asynchronous, guided, or independent work time. Expectations will also include strategies for families to help students organize their time, allowing for frequent breaks and a mix of activities.
Note: Parents and guardians have a critical responsibility to oversee their child’s education during remote instruction. Success in the Remote Academy is critically dependent on a child having the support of a learning coach. Please click here for more information about the role of the learning coach.
