In honor of National Native American Heritage Month, SWE CEO and Executive Director Karen Horting sits down with Sarah EchoHawk, president and CEO of Advancing Indigenous People in STEM (AISES), to discuss visibility, allyship, and access for Indigenous engineers.
Sarah shares her family’s deep legacy of public service, the role of tribal colleges in reclaiming education, and how Indigenous knowledge systems — from fire science to environmental stewardship — can help solve global challenges.
Plus, hear how employers, educators, and organizations like SWE can strengthen partnerships with AISES to ensure Indigenous voices are included in the future of STEM.
The SWE Fiscal Year for 2025-2026 started on July 1st. Make sure to renew your SWE membership dues today! Visit the SWE website today to renew!
This year’s WE25 Conference took us to the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana, where the theme was “Embrace Your Story.”
The WE25 conference featured three keynote speakers, multiple technical and leadership sessions, a career fair, an awards ceremony, local technical tours, and “Invent It. Build It.” a STEM outreach event for local students. The conference emphasized networking, professional development and celebrating accomplishments of women in STEM.
Some highlights included:
✨State of Women in Engineering – Check out the research here.
✨Keynotes & Inspirational Insights – You can watch on-demand recordings of all keynotes and sessions on the Advance Learning Center. All recordings are free and open to the public—just log in with your SWE account (or create one) to access!
✨WE25 Virtual Awards Hall – Celebrate the WE25 awardees in the awards hall!
✨Invent It. Build It. info – Check out the SWE website for more information.
We had an amazing time in New Orleans, came back inspired, and are already counting down to WE26 in Boston!
Our chapter had an amazing time at Heard Elementary’s STEAM Night! We helped students build their very own Bristle bots using a small motor, coin battery, and toothbrush. This activity focused on teaching students about circuits and engineering design. It was incredible to see their creativity come to life as they explored hands-on engineering concepts in a fun and interactive way!

Through SWE membership, women in engineering will advance in their careers and connect with the world’s largest network of women in engineering and their allies. Visit membership.swe.org to explore more about SWE and join or renew today.
