STEM Exploration Day with Girl Scouts of Savannah

by WHITNEY HOLT

This event was held as a hybrid one, with some Girl Scouts there in person and even more online via Zoom. There were 6 on the panel to answer questions and promote STEM, including our host. There were 2 Veterinarians, 1 Medical Doctor, 1 STEM teacher, and myself (Whitney Holt) an Aerospace Engineer. The Host, Ambria Berksteiner, recently took a position with the Girl Scouts as a Program Manager, focused on STEM. You might remember her and her mother from other SWE events and STEM in the community. She is a recent graduate with an Industrial Engineering degree and she pivoted when the pandemic caused her full-time position to be rescinded after graduation. This was her first event hosted after the passing of her biggest fan, her mother, earlier this year. An incredible woman who shared her loving spirit, positive attitude, and the passion for STEM to all who would listen. She will be missed and we honor all her accomplishments, including the upbringing of Ambria and her sisters.

Ambria hosted an incredible event and she is a welcome face and energy that we are lucky to have here in the Coastal Empire. We (SWE) are looking forward to many more events where SWE can partner with the Girl Scouts to further promote STEM in our backyard!

Three of the students attending are no stranger to SWE events. Two of them attended the virtual Girls Engineer It Day, and one of them attended Dance Robot classes we held at the Garden City Library. We will hopefully get to see many again when we lend a helping hand to some of the troops gaining their STEM badges when we are able to meet the troops in person again.
