Update: May 20, 2020
Dear Students and Families,
Hello and welcome to what seems to be the beginning of a great stretch of weather. I hope that everyone in the SWCEC community is doing well and making sure to take time for themselves. As a brief update, I am hoping that we will be receiving further guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) by the end of this week and beyond as to what will be allowed for summer programming for our students as well as what to hopefully expect for the return to school in August, 2020. I say this in light of Governor Baker's outline of the Four-Phase Approach to get to the ultimate goal of the "New Normal", which was issued on May 18th. During his address to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, there was not any formal decision made by Governor Baker regarding the status of schools; however, I am hopeful that clear guidance will indeed be forthcoming from Russell Johnston and his associates at DESE as it relates to Special Education.
I have listed some helpful links for you to read and use as you see fit, as they have been intermittently published by DESE:
Educational Resources for Students and Families
The SWCEC team of teachers, related service providers, and administration have been working diligently to provide outreach to local education agencies as well as with families and will continue to do so, despite our isolation from each other and our students. In an effort to provide you with potential resources to keep your children active and engaged we have the following initial list of activities that can be used at home at your discretion. Please keep in mind that the following list is comprehensive in nature, and may not entirely apply to the needs of your individual child and his/her unique needs. Please use the resources as you see fit, as you know your children best! These activities are in no way mandatory, nor will teachers or service providers be collecting any work for grading or other evaluative purposes. These activities are for enrichment and should be made as enjoyable as possible. Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share. The best way to reach me at this time given the shut-down of SWCEC programs is by email.
My address is: ALUNDWALL@SWCEC.ORG
I wish each and every one of you and your loved ones the very best in these challenging and uncertain times.
Arnold Lundwall, M.S., Ed., Director of Special Services
