OPEN HOUSE EVENTS // Swanville School Auditorium // 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. // Wednesday, January 8 or Tuesday, January 14
Currently, the main office is located on the east side of the building, while the primary entrance at the west side opens directly into the cafeteria without any offices or security presence. This layout poses safety concerns, as visitors can access the building without proper screening. Relocating the main office to the front of the building will create a secure entrance, where visitors must check in before entering the school. This change is essential for improving the safety and security of students and staff.
The primary purpose of the new weight room is to support our students and their educational and extracurricular needs. However, we understand the importance of creating facilities that benefit the broader community. Many school districts with similar projects offer structured opportunities for community access, such as specific hours or memberships, while ensuring the space is available for students during school hours and activities. If the referendum passes, we will work with the school board and the community to establish policies for safe and equitable use of the weight room.
The projects address critical needs, including safety, accessibility, and modernizing learning spaces to better serve students now and in the future.
The school district will need to evaluate alternative solutions, which may include delaying or scaling back projects, but these needs will not disappear and may become more costly over time.
Beyond voting, you can help by staying informed and communicating accurate information about the referendum. Attend informational meetings, share district updates on social media, or talk to friends and neighbors about the importance of this initiative. If you’d like to get more involved, please reach out to the district office or sign up for volunteer opportunities when they are available.
Our school facilities are aging and require updates to meet the needs of today’s students and future generations. Increasing enrollment, the need for modern learning spaces like Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms, and required safety and accessibility improvements are driving this request. Investing now allows us to address these needs cost-effectively before they become more expensive in the future.
