Hi! I'm Miss Ferreira! I have my Master's in teaching from Northeastern University and am specialized in Early Childhood, Elementary, and ELL (Prek-12). In the past I have counseled inner-city youth in Brooklyn, NY, and have served as Swansea's district-wide ELL teacher. I have taught preschool for the last four years and absolutely love it! My teaching involves lots of movement and an emphasis on social emotional growth! In my spare time, I like to stay active, write, and hang out with my cat, Cheddar. 'Ched' has become a mascot for my classroom and students bring home a look-alike stuffed animal when they are the helper of the day. They also get to "dress him for the weather"!
Write letters or numbers in shaving cream
Continued work on alphabet memory game! This is an engaging way for students to practice writing, use their memories, and to work on letter identification! You can up the ante by asking what sound the letter makes as they flip over the cards, have the kids draw pictures to represent each letter. You can also switch it up by making sight word memory games and number memory games!
Letter hunt! I went for a walk today and had fun finding the letter Ww in random signs! You could have the kids identify the letter of the week or play the alphabet game where they have to first find an A, then a B, and so on. You can also hide letters around the house kind of an Easter egg hunt and have them find those! As always, you can instead focus on numbers or sight words too.
Card games are really good for honing on math skills. When you play “War” you’re working on greater than/less than skills! Go Fish is good for recognition and matching as well.
Kids can count objects around the house. This is good for developing 1:1 ratio skills. Have the kids touch item they count this way they won’t count the same object more than once. To add onto this activity, students can practice writing whatever number they have counted. They can even take it a step further by then developing simple math problems. Ex: Counts three markers and four pencils. Then writes 3+4=7, and so on. These problems can be simple or difficult depending on where your child is.
Similar to number 4, if you have plastic cups around, write a number on each cup and have your child fill up the cup with the correct amount of objects.
