Swampscott by the C 2020

History is happening in Swampscott as it is around the world. The pandemic has changed all of our lives. Our schedules have changed, our working habits have changed, socializing has changed, and schooling has changed. These changes matter now and they will become a part of our history. You are part of this change. Someday, children will read about the coronavirus and how it changed our world. Please consider helping us to create a lasting record of these changes and this period in time in Swampscott by contributing to Swampscott by the C 2020.

Swampscott by the C 2020 project organizers invite members of the Swampscott Community -- students, family members, school staff , Swampscott residents- to share their reflections on this experience through poems, journal entries, interviews, photographs, drawings, songs, memes, or any other creative expression you can devise.

POSSIBLE FOCUS QUESTIONS:

  • How has this pandemic changed the way you live?

  • How has the pandemic changed what you think?

  • Will you be the same?

Many of us are missing all the things we cannot do this year and this makes us sad. Some of us have already found that we are hopeful and enjoying some of the changes that we are experiencing. This project will document our struggles, strengths, and remarkable resilience as human beings. Let’s provide future generations with primary source documents that collectively show the strength of our community.

We will accept your submissions through the end of the school year, and then mount an exhibition of everyone’s work (provided they are appropriate for a community audience).

GETTING STARTED:

The 13 questions below might help you to think about the reflection and project you would like to share. Please feel free to pose and answer your own questions related to the pandemic:

  1. What challenges has the Pandemic created for you?

  2. What opportunities has the Pandemic created for you?

  3. What are you doing differently now that school will be closed for several weeks?

  4. What strengths have you discovered in yourself?

  5. What is your perception of Social Distancing? How does it impact your play? How does it impact friendships?

  6. How do you keep yourself happy and in the green zone?

  7. What are you afraid of? What makes you worry?

  8. What are your favorite times in a day?

  9. How has school changed? What do you miss? What do you like better?

  10. What do you now realize you miss most about your regular world?

  11. What will become a favorite memory?

  12. When you become a mom or dad, what will you tell your children about this Pandemic?

  13. What are you most excited about being able to do again?

FORMAT is up to you. All responses should be appropriate for all audiences, original and made by you. Be creative! You can answer the larger question in any appropriate format for a community audience.
