WHOLE SCHOOL SPRING FESTIVAL CELEBRATION
Written by Ms. Guo
Spring Festival is the most solemn and bustling traditional festival in China. In order to celebrate this joyous festival, students from SWA EYES and MSHS held two session performances with the theme of "The Story of the Spring Festival". In the performance of EYES, with the ringing of the bell, the curtain slowly opened. What came into sight was the "prelude" brought by the children of G1 - The First Day of Spring Festival. In the crisp and sweet reading and music, the children sang and danced to express their appreciation for the coming of spring and the recovery of Vientiane (every phenomenon on the earth).
随着爷爷、孙子、孙女的讲述,春节由腊月二十三开始,至正月十五结束,在这将近一个月的传统节日期间,人们各种庆祝活动的画卷逐渐展现。

PARENTS’ ACTIVITY
Written by Ms. Lisa and Mr. Alex
PARENT COOKING CLASS IS BACK!
SWA is proud to share that the parents are back to school! Yes, that is right. Our parents now have several opportunities to participate in exciting activities right here on our campus. We have made several spaces available for the parents' get together, to enjoy quality time and have fun. As the Chinese New Year approached, On Tuesday, January 31, a group of parents gathered in the DT Masterchef Kitchen to celebrate in a special way. They joined forces to cook dumplings in a fun and engaging activity that brought everyone together.
The atmosphere was lively and festive, with the sound of laughter, smiles, and the aroma of freshly cooked dumplings filling the air. All participants worked together, rolling out dough and filling it with a variety of delicious ingredients. This activity was not only a great way to welcome the Year of the Rabbit but also a great opportunity for parents to bond and get to know each other better.
Everyone had a great time and the end result was a delicious feast of dumplings for all to enjoy. The activity was a success and everyone left with happy memories.
The dumpling-making activity brought together a very good number of parents and created a fun and engaging atmosphere. Everyone hand in hand from sharing the recipe, how to make the dough from scratch, and how to mix the spices. The result was fragrance and delicious dumplings! It was a wonderful way to celebrate the Chinese New Year and a great opportunity for the SWA Parent community to come together and make memories.
The parent association heated things up after the cooking class by opening a scrumptious snack stall during the Spring Festival event with delightful bites, from the sweet and chewy Tang Yuen to the spicy and savory Aloo Boonda. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the PAs, we can indulge in these delectable treats to our hearts' content!
SWA TEAHOUSE
Written by Library Team and Chinese Department
February 1st, 2023 was a special Coffee Morning as it was the reopening of the beautiful SWA teahouse.
"Tea is more than just a drink. It brings communities together."
Tea drinking not only brings health benefits but also teaches us mindfulness and appreciation of the small things in life. The SWA teahouse which is strategically located in Zheng He building is not only a place for gathering, but also for learning and rediscovery. Aside from students, teachers, and staff, the SWA parents are highly encouraged to utilise the room for reading, relaxing, and bonding.
We are delighted to share this wonderful space with the whole community and we look forward to creating more fun and meaningful activities with everyone.
Please do not hesitate to contact swa_library@swa-jkt.com for teahouse reservations.
MICRO: BITS CLUB
Written by Mr. Ciaran
In recent sessions, the Micro:bits club have been exploring two different types of sensors: the alcohol sensor, and the steam sensor. The club members programmed and constructed an alcohol sensor, which they then tested by spraying alcohol-based sanitizer in close proximity. The reading appeared on the Micro:bits on-board LEDs.
Last week, the club members constructed a steam sensor, to detect moisture in the air. A smoke machine (commonly used in stage performances) was used to test if the devices functioned as intended. This was a more complicated project, since it required students to connect and program an LCD, which could show the readings more clearly.
Members are reminded to bring the Micro:bits, Sensor shield kits, and laptops to every session! Students in grades 4-6 who are interested in programming and electronics are welcome to come along to the Micro:bits club in the Design building every Tuesday, between 3-4 pm.
Please join us as we continue the build-up to our major project, Otto the Micro:bit-driven robot, which we will construct in term 4.
Aradhya connects the components to the sensor shield.
Jet searches for the correct sensor.
Darrell and Manas prepare their components.
Ruoyi troubleshooting her program.
Marco testing his steam sensor using a smoke machine.
Angie testing her steam sensor. The LCD shows the level of steam detected.
TEDXYOUTH@SWA 2023 - FEBRUARY 25th, 2023

When we are in harmony with our true selves, we will radiate positivity and attract positive experiences and people around us. This resonant energy creates a ripple effect that has the power to touch and positively impact everyone around us.

SWA LITERACY PROGRAMME
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
