Toddler Mathematics
Written by Ms. Ann
In our toddler class, we're fully immersed in exploring different shapes through songs, games, sorting activities, and hands-on manipulatives. As our little learners move and groove to catchy tunes, they're mastering the art of forming basic shapes with their fingers, enhancing both their motor skills and shape recognition.
Sorting items into circles, squares, and triangles has become a delightful challenge, allowing our toddlers to discern the unique physical features of each shape. Writing and drawing these shapes using their pointer finger, as well as jumping from one shape to another, refines balance and coordination, adding a dynamic element to our learning process. Captivating stories like "Mouse Shapes" transport our toddlers into imaginary worlds, strengthening their understanding of shape characteristics in engaging ways.
Our adventures extend outdoors as toddlers gather and collect different shapes from the playground, transforming ordinary stones into shape treasures. Through hands-on activities like moulding playdough and naming shapes, our toddlers reinforce their shape vocabulary with excitement.
Nursery Literacy
Written by Ms. Ruby and Ms. Eliza
We were thrilled by the enthusiasm our nursery students showed in learning literacy. At our nursery, we designed a captivating and interactive experience for alphabet learning. They enjoyed activities like matching pictures to sounds, discovering real objects for each letter, and tracing letters using markers and sensory materials like sand and rice. The creative aspect of crafting letters with playdough and beads sparked their imagination and enhanced their focus and motor skills.
We had a fun game called "Find the Letters," where children used spray bottles to search for specific letters and sprayed them with water once they found them. We also played an "Egg Relay'' activity where children balanced an egg on a spoon while walking along a zigzag line that started with the letter Z. These activities encourage active participation, nurtured a love for learning, and boosted their literacy skills. The children enjoyed singing letter songs and practising tracing letters through writing.
Additionally, story time was eagerly anticipated by our nursery kids. They enthusiastically engaged in discussions related to the stories and freely selected books based on their interests. It was a delightful experience for them that enriched their imagination and language skills.

The Koi building was filled with laughter and camaraderie from 18 March to 20 March as we celebrated our annual ES Spirit Week. It was a whirlwind of fun and unity, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the turnout.
We kicked off the festivities with Twins Day, where students and teachers alike dressed up in coordinated outfits alongside their chosen classmate(s). The sight of matching duos wandering the school corridors brought smiles to everyone's faces and set a joyful tone for the rest of the week.
The following day brought about a unique opportunity for comfort and cosiness as students embraced the chance to wear their pyjamas to school. It was a delightful sight to see students strolling into classrooms in their favourite sleepwear, ready to tackle the day in ultimate comfort.
As ES Spirit Week drew to a close, we went out with a bang on Crazy Hair Day. Students unleashed their creativity, sporting a variety of wild and wacky hairstyles. From vibrant colours to elaborate hairpieces, each hairstyle was a testament to the imaginative spirit of our students.
With Crazy Hair Day marking the conclusion of our busy Term 3, we couldn't think of a better way to wrap up the school year. Spirit Week not only provided endless entertainment but also strengthened the bonds within our school community.

Grade 1 Science
Written by Ms. Evi
In Term 3, Grade 1 learned various topics such as weather and seasons, light and shadow, heat, and sound. They observed that light is emitted by torches and created lights of different colours by wrapping cellophane paper of various colours around the lens of a torch.
They also learned how shadows are formed, and that an object and its shadow are alike in shape. They concluded that no shadow is formed when there is no light. Students took turns making shadows of different shapes using objects from their school bags. They created shadow puppets using different types of paper (white, black, and tracing paper) and observed which type of paper formed the darkest shadow. Students played with their classmates and puppets, observing how the shadows changed as they moved their puppets. Then, they had to describe the shadow formed by their puppet in two or three sentences.
In our heat experiment, we observed the effects of temperature on the dispersion of food colouring in water. We dropped food colouring into containers of cold water, room temperature water, and hot water to compare the rate of diffusion. The food colouring spread quickly in the hot water, creating vibrant hues that rapidly filled the container. Conversely, in the cold water, the food colouring diffused slowly, producing faint and gradual colour changes. The room temperature water exhibited a moderate rate of diffusion, with the food colouring spreading steadily but not as rapidly as in the hot water.

This semester, our Grade 4 young musicians have embarked on an exhilarating musical odyssey, delving into diverse cultures through song and rhythm. From the enchanting melodies of Chinese, Indonesian, Korean, and Japanese tunes to our upcoming exploration of Filipino music, our students have embraced the beauty and uniqueness of each musical tradition. Through singing, dancing, and playing instruments, they have not only learned the languages of these cultures but also the intricate nuances of their musical styles, scales, and instruments.
One highlight of this year has been the mastery of the hulusi Chinese wind instrument. Through the melodious tones of the hulusi, our students have not only honed their instrumental skills but also delved into a world of traditional and modern music from diverse cultures. Their fluency in playing the hulusi, coupled with improved note-reading abilities, speaks volumes about their dedication and passion for music.
In addition to instrumental proficiency, our students have blossomed as vocalists, expanding their vocal range and honing their choral skills. Whether reaching new heights in pitch or perfecting harmonies in choir format, their growth as singers is nothing short of remarkable. Their rendition of Arirang in a higher key is a testament to their improved vocal production and accuracy, showcasing their commitment to excellence. The music doesn't stop in the classroom. Our Grade 4 stars have graced numerous school events with their talents, captivating audiences with diverse performances that highlight the beauty of musical expression.
This week, they learned to craft simple pentatonic compositions for their hulusi instruments. Beyond honing their musical skills, this exercise sparks creativity and stimulates brain development, empowering our students to become creators of music. Just recently, several Grade 4 students showcased their talents at our school's FLAME 2024 Music Competition, leaving a lasting impression with their stellar performances on piano and guitar. Their courage, perseverance, and dedication are truly commendable, embodying the spirit of our school's music program.
