JNY Cup
Written by Ms. Sherly
This past Saturday, 20 January 2024, some of our students from Grades 4 to 7 participated in the JNY Cup swim competition hosted at Jakarta Nanyang School. Despite a brief preparation period following the holiday break, our swimmers – Serena (Grade 4), Jet (Grade 5), Rachelle (Grade 7), and Naysa (Grade 7), demonstrated outstanding dedication. The competition took place in an Olympic-sized pool, presenting a unique challenge distinct from their usual training environment. Nevertheless, our resilient students surpassed expectations, achieving personal best times. A special acknowledgement goes to Serena, who secured a well-deserved bronze medal in the 50-metre freestyle for the 9-10 age group. Congratulations to our SWA swimmers for their remarkable achievements! Your hard work and perseverance make us proud. Keep up the excellent work!

The Journey of Our Students to the FLL Tournaments in the Philippines, 15 - 18 February 2024
In the vibrant halls of our school, a palpable excitement buzzes among our Elementary School and Middle and High School students. They are diligently preparing for the upcoming FIRST LEGO League (FLL) tournaments in the Philippines, a pinnacle event in the world of young robotics enthusiasts. The countdown has begun, with the students set to embark on their journey on February 15th, ready to showcase their skills in the FLL Explore for our younger Early Years/Elementary School students, and the FLL Challenge for our ES and Middle Year students from grades 6 to 10.
As our students progress into the FLL Explore phase, they build upon their foundational STEM knowledge. It's a critical transition as they start to apply what they've learned in a more complex and hands-on environment. In this stage, they form teams to design and build robots using the LEGO® Education SPIKE Essential. The dedication and focus in their eyes are evident as they brainstorm, design, and construct their robotic creations. It's a testament to their hard work and the excellent guidance of our teachers.
The FLL Challenge is where our older students, from ES to the Middle Year Program. This stage is more than building and programming robots; it's about solving real-world problems, thinking critically, and working collaboratively. Our students are not only honing their technical skills but also developing essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
Training in Action: Preparing for the FLL Tournaments
As the school community, we are incredibly proud of all our students participating in the FLL tournaments. Their journey represents more than just a competition; it is a journey of learning, growth, and discovery. To all our students participating in the FLL tournaments, we wish you the very best. Your hard work, creativity, and passion for STEM are inspiring to us all.
Stay tuned for more updates on their journey and experiences at the FLL tournaments!

SWA Literacy Programme
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
