Last year, we wanted to create a club that could connect our community at school in different ways. We were inspired to create this club by Youth Service America. Youth Service America (YSA) is an organization that has currently been working hard to help out many citizens that are struggling during this nationwide pandemic. Their website has a toolkit which contains many service project ideas for youth to do in their own communities. This Silver Creek Youth Service club (SCYS) can emulate this organization by trying to carry out some of the community service projects outlined on their website such as supporting essential workers and people that are out of work as well as donating to nonprofit organizations. Some of the activities that club members could participate in could be making and donating face masks, raising awareness for social issues, writing letters to health care workers, and fundraising for local businesses and nonprofits.
We intend to:
Hold fundraisers or donations for businesses during the COVID pandemic
Write thank you letters and stuff to nurses (find connection through teachers)
Advertise our club for new membership and fundraiser attendance
Sell jewelry and other hand crafted items virtually in order to fundraise towards organizations we are passionate about
Educate our new members on how to make face masks to donate to local organizations
This club is open to all students at Silver Creek, looking to engage in their leadership and service experience, especially wanting to help out during this pandemic. It would be an amazing way to meet new friends at Silver Creek and engage in our Longmont community.
More info regarding SCYS may be found here.

I enjoy dancing, skating, hiking, STEM, as well as videography. As senior, I have always loved the amazing teachers and classes provided at Silver Creek. Additionally, the inclusive community at our school is amazing to develop lasting friendships as well as engaging in activities you are passionate about. Starting SCYS at Silver Creek is a step towards building service and compassion during this nationwide pandemic.

My favorite hobbies are swimming, hiking, biking, and skiing. I'm a senior at Silver Creek and I have always enjoyed the openness of the school community to new ideas and projects. At this time of uncertainty, community service is more important than ever. This is why we felt it was the perfect time to start this club.
