Competition Procedures

Teams will receive the following instructions prior to all matches for which one or more teams are participating in their first match (Rounds 1 and 2 of this year's competition):

Students, you may not have anything in your possession. If you have a phone or other device (including a smart watch), please give it to an adult at this time.

We will begin with (Team Name) as the red team and end with (team Name) as the blue team.  The header information for each question that you will see will be the same color as the team having first go at the question.

All answers must come from the spokesperson. Once an answer is given that answer must stand.

You have 20 seconds to answer a question.  The clock will begin immediately after the question has been read. You must begin your answer before the timer runs out.

Please speak loudly and clearly when giving your answer.

If a team cannot come up with an answer or a wrong answer is given, the opposing team will have 10 seconds to answer.  After their chance to pick up the question, they will receive their regular turn.

When a team has been asked a question, the opposing team should not be discussing that question amongst themselves unless a wrong answer is given.

If the round ends in a tie, we will proceed with tiebreakers until we have a winner.  Directions for tiebreaker questions will be provided if and when necessary.

Audience, thank you for coming.  At this time please silence all electronic devices.  We ask that you kindly store them in a purse or pocket during the round so they are not a distraction to our competitors.

In order to respect the privacy of all students, photography, video, and audio taping are not allowed when a round is in progress.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Everyone should remain seated and be as quiet as possible so the students can concentrate.

At the end of this round, I will let each team know where and when they compete next.
