Grading Policy

French & Spanish 1 (Middle School)

Grades: This is a High School credit-bearing course. All students must pass the class as well as the final exam, each with a 65 or better, to receive the credit. This course grade will go on your High School transcript.

1. The purpose of my grades is to communicate student academic achievement of my priority standards.

2. The best tool I have to measure this is summative assessment, so my grades are exclusively made from evidence from those assessments.

3. Students have multiple opportunities to show their evidence of achievement throughout the year.

As a result of the above, grades will be updated based on the most recent Summative Assessment grade. All work will be reported in SchoolTool/ParentPortal in a 0% category called Practice. This way students and parents can see progress across each skill during a unit and know what to improve/get help on prior to each assessment. These assignments will be graded as follows:

• Novice-High/Intermediate Low  (NH/IL)

• Novice-High (NH) 

• Novice-Mid (NM)

• Novice-Low (NL) 

• No Evidence (MS - missing)

• Plagiarism & Cheating (PC) - until redone

*0-100 scale grades will still be reported on progress reports and report cards per district policy

To improve throughout a unit, quarter, or the year, make sure your “grades” are mostly NM, NH or above. The less NL’s or MS’s the better prepared you are for summative assessments and ultimately success.

Each students' class average for the year will be determined as follows:

Quarter 1: 20%

Quarter 2: 20%

Quarter 3: 20%

Quarter 4: 20%

Midterm Exam: 10%

Final Exam: 10%
