Our Classroom
Studio Art
Studio Art explores the fundamentals of the art processes and materials while learning the Elements and Principles of Design. It is the prerequisite for all other art classes available in high school. Studio Art must be completed with a passing grade in order to take Drawing & Painting, Photography, Clay & Ceramics, Advanced Studio, etc.
Required Materials: 9x12 (or smaller) sketchbook, #2 pencils, large eraser. These can be kept in your storage cubby in the Art room.

Our Classroom
Drawing & Painting
This course provides a more in depth study of drawing techniques and the painting media. Students are required to draw on a daily basis and are given specific assignments, which allow them to explore the media and process of painting. In addition to this, they study the history of painting from the caveman to present. Weekly sketchbooks are required.
Required Materials: 9x12 (or smaller) sketchbook, large eraser. These can be kept in your storage cubby in the Art room.

Dual Credit Advanced Studio Art
MVCC FA 101 (1 HS credit; 3 college credits)
This course is for those who want to continue their study of the arts and complete an art sequence. This course focuses on studying the masters along with mastering a chosen media. In the later part of the course, students are encouraged and guided to develop their own personal style and approach to art. The students are able to choose much of their own media and design many of their own projects. Sketchbooks are a requirement and graded. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Studio Art and Drawing and Painting
Required Materials: Sketchbook (any size), Paint brush set with various sizes for acrylic/oil paint. Be prepared to invest in other materials for projects throughout the year.
Our Classroom
Photography
Photography (1/2 year): Open to all students who have had Studio Art. This course introduces students to concepts and techniques in creating quality images by manually controlling exposure, focus, and light. Students will learn photography's history by studying photographers and early processes as well as modern digital technologies. Images will be created using digital cameras with emphasis on creating the highest quality with the camera. Projects will range from "real world" assignments to artistic in nature. Students will be encouraged to create photographs with both artistic and technical merit. The class will explore career opportunities for photographers as well. Qualifies for Art Sequence credit.
Required Materials: SD memory card (at least 8gb), 3 ring binder/pocket folder for handouts and notes.
Our Classroom
Clay & Ceramics
The course studies clay bodies, glazes/under glazes, methods, and techniques along with throwing on the wheel. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Studio Art
