Grading Policy

My grading procedures

To determine your final grade in the course, I will calculate your percentage by dividing your total earned points by the total points possible. Lengthy or final unit assignments will be weighed heavier than others. Homework does not count as more than 10% of your grade; however, much of the work done in class will be directly related to homework assignments. Students who complete work for this course will pass the class.

LATE WORK POLICY

I believe in giving everyone an opportunity to learn. When you don't turn in work on time it will only get harder. Our work builds upon the previous day's classwork. Managing your time so you can complete it or ask for help is your responsibility. Students who do not hand work in on time risk failing the course. Work for class is due when it is due. Exceptions will be made at teacher discretion.

Midterms and finals

Yes, for both English 9 and English 10, students will take a midterm and a final exam. These examinations are a reflection of the work we have done throughout the course. They include reading passages, multiple choice questions, and essays/written responses.

Your final course average calculation is as follows:

20% for each quarter average; 10% for midterm assessment; 10% for final assessment.

How can I improve my grade?

I try to post graded assignments as soon as possible on schooltool. It is in your best interest to check your grades through student portal as often as possible. If there are any discrepensies, please see me. I would like your grade to be an accurate reflection of your effort and abilities in this course.

If you have submitted all of your work and are still unsatisfied with your grade, let's set up a time to talk!
