Private Lesson Program

Beginning in Fall 2026, Saint Vincent Academy is excited to offer private and small group voice and piano lessons. Students enrolled in lessons will be pulled out of classes once a week to participate in this curricular program.

Why do you have to pull my child out of class to teach their lesson?

With the technical motor skills necessary to successfully play an instrument or be a successful vocalist, 1-1 instruction is essential to student growth. Due to scheduling capacities of our modular system, students do not have the flexible free time to take a weekly lesson. 

For this reason, students will only miss the same class once every few weeks. The lesson schedule will "pull" the student out of a rotating schedule, where students miss class 1 during week 1, class 2 during week 2, class 3 during week 3, etc. 

Students are responsible for making up any missed work or assignments. If students fail to make up assignments in these missed classes, they will lose their privelege to take these lessons until the work is made up. 

What will be taught in these private lessons? 

Students will be taught the tecnical skills necessary to be successful pianists and vocalists, including the following topics: 

• Music reading (i.e. Western notation rhythm and pitch reading)

• Aural skills 

• Music history and canonical repertoire 

• Solo performance oppurtunities 

What are the expectations of the students enrolled in private lessons? 

In order to enroll in private voice or piano lessons, students and families must agree to the following: 

• At-home practicing: Like any other subject, at home (or outside of school) study is essential for progress. The lesson is not a review of the previous week's lesson, it is a chance to teach students how to learn so that they may be independent music learners. 

• Ensemble Commitment: If you are receiving private lesson instruction, you must attend Vincentian Voices after school as an extracurricular ensemble. In order to receive this privelege, students must commit to serving their musical community at school.

• Studio Classes: Once a cycle after school, students will be required to attend and perform in a studio class, where a group of students perform repertoire that they are working on in lessons for one another and offer feedback. Dates for these classes will be communicated at the beginning of the school year, and attendance is required. 

• Communication: Students must be successful communicators with Ms. Moore, and the teachers of the classes that they are missing.
