Leadership Project Track
Obstacle Course Design
For my EDGE project I designed and executed a landscaping project. This project will be used as an obstacle training course for a local lawn mowing business. I was the lead and acting as a foreman for the project. I worked alongside the owners on the running budget and bouncing off ideas for their course. The owners had a long list of different things that their employees face on a daily basis and so those obstacles were first on the list to incorporate. My goal through all of this was to become a great leader and to be able to manage all aspects of a project.
I found inspiration for this project while I was working with this company, there were certain points of training that were difficult to show new employees. Instead of taking employees out to a serviced lawn the goal was to bring the lawn to the employee. The course will go into full swing in the spring of 2019. I have always strived for quality and efficiency and this is a great way for the business to provide that.
Challenges during project are inevitable having so many variables and so what I first learned was to roll with the set backs and bask in the expeditions. Planning for the worst and hoping for the best is what they always say but it is about managing the variables the best that you can to avoid the setbacks. Another great lesson I learned about myself is that anything is possible when you put all you have got into it. Always striving to do my best I was able to stay positive and learn much about managing a team on a project.
Everything Exterior is the company that the course was created for and they will begin this coming spring working with newly hired employees on the course in an effort to train with full efficiency. The owners of the business are very satisfied with the outcome and look forward to using it regularly. I am very proud of my work that it is going to be used, and turned out looking very good for how many lawn obstacles were incorporated in the design.
When first thinking about a project such as this I was not very excited and was also nervous for what may come of it. After the project and looking back on my experience I am very proud of most all of the aspects of the project along with all that I learned. I am looking forward to future careers in management and this was a great experience to see how well I do with others and also what I can improve upon. I benefited greatly and will always appreciate the project oversight that I learned and implemented and what I have learned worked well and what did not work so well.
