Location and Site
The Burgess Hill Academy serves the growing town of Burgess Hill, which has a population of approximately 35,000 and continues to expand through significant housing development in the Northern Arc.
Originally established as Oakmeeds Community College, the academy occupies a central location within the town, making it accessible to many children through walking routes and public transport links. As Burgess Hill continues to grow and regenerate, there is a strong commitment from local stakeholders, including West Sussex County Council, to ensure the academy plays a central role in the town's future success.
Significant investment has already been made in the academy's facilities, with further improvements planned. Sussex Learning Trust is committed to ensuring that the academy's development matches the ambition and potential of the community it serves.
Our School and The Role
The Burgess Hill Academy is a welcoming and ambitious school where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best. Guided by our mantra, "Believe in your best", we strive to create a culture in which children, families, staff and governors work together to help every young person thrive.
Over recent years, the academy has experienced both challenges and successes. Despite periods of uncertainty linked to previous trust arrangements, staff have worked tirelessly to improve standards, strengthen outcomes and build a positive culture for learning. Their commitment has laid strong foundations for future success.
In September 2026, The Burgess Hill Academy joined Sussex Learning Trust, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With talented staff, engaged children and improving outcomes, the academy is now well positioned to realise its full potential.
We are seeking an exceptional Headteacher who can lead this next phase of development. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of school improvement, strong strategic leadership and a commitment to securing the very best outcomes for all children. They will inspire confidence, build strong relationships and work collaboratively with staff, governors, families and the wider Trust community.
The Headteacher will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Local Governors, fellow Headteachers and the Senior Leadership Team to provide clear vision, leadership and direction for the academy. Together, they will ensure the school continues to improve, thrives within the Trust and delivers on its ambitions for every child.
In return we will offer you:
A caring, inclusive school where everyone feels safe, encouraged, and included.
A passionate, hard-working team who are dedicated to getting the best out of all our children.
A high-quality exciting learning environment.
Strong partnerships with parents and carers.
A wide support network across the Trust.
