Uniform Policy
Students at Sussex Academy are required to wear regulation uniforms selected from and supplied by a vendor approved by the school. The uniform policy is enforced and parents will be notified. It is the responsibility of parents to see that their children come to school dressed according to the uniform policy: All clothes should be neat, clean, not frayed, ripped, or patched. Belts are not mandatory. Both boys and girls are permitted to wear shorts as long as they follow the other dress code rules.
Elementary school students may wear the blue or white crew-neck t-shirt or polo shirts with the school logo. Students are not allowed to wear apparel with other writing or logos while in regulation school uniform.
All bottoms must be khaki material and khaki color. Leggings, jeggings, skin-tight pants are not permitted. All skirts, shorts, and skorts must meet the fingertip length rule. Navy, white or gray leggings CAN BE worn UNDER shorts or skorts.
Students may wear any spirit wear, athletic apparel, and school store apparel outerwear over uniform top Monday-Friday with their uniform bottoms.
SPIRIT WEAR shirts (goat/chicken shirts) May be worn on Fridays with uniform bottoms.
The vendor-approved gym uniform may be worn to school on gym days only.
Athletic shoes, Velcro, or lace-up with arch support, are mandatory for PE days. This does not include shoes like canvas Converse or Vans, etc. We try to go outside daily, and children should wear appropriate and functional shoes (lace-up or Velcro shoes, rather than slip-on). In bad weather, students may wear hiking boots or regular boots.
Sweat pants, warm-up suits, and other athletic clothing are not considered “uniform” wear, nor are hip huggers, cargo pants, or bare midriffs. Leggings are not pants.
Tight or form-fitting clothes are not appropriate even if they meet other dress code guidelines.
Jewelry and other accessories should be conservative and limited.
Elementary Students may not wear:
Sandals, clogs (including crocs), or open-toed shoes.
Outdoor jackets for indoor wear. Including non-uniform sweatshirts.
Hats in the building or non-religious head coverings.
We do go outside! Shoes may get wet and/or dirty. It is suggested a second pair of sneakers be kept at school. Sunscreen and bug spray are also suggested. During cold weather, hats, gloves, scarves, and a proper coat are a must! Outdoor classroom activities are an integral part of the Sussex Academy Elementary curriculum. We do not stay indoors because it is cold.
